Recycle your old cameras
What are we going to do with our old 35 mm cameras? It takes way too long to see the grand kids with those. With digital cameras, phones and watches, satisfying our instant gratification craving, who really wants to use film cameras any more? Students! I would like to start a collection of 35 mm cameras for students who have never seen or used a film camera. Let’s see what happens! What will they come up with?
Most of us are in between eras (analog vs. digital). Remember when there were no cordless phones or CDs? What about answering machines or remote controls? Film cameras are going to be extinct soon and so many of us have old 110 cameras and Le Clicks or disk cameras. There were made from plastic and can not be recycled so why not give a student an old camera to experiment with? Wouldn’t it be fun to convert theses in to pin hole cameras perhaps? I would love to see what happens when you give someone a camera and they have to wait for the results. Remember 7 hour photo? Then one hour photo and of course Polaroid.
If you have an old camera (it does not have to be a name brand) send it to me. I have contacts in the NYC public schools that would love to incorporate this type of instruction in their art classes.
